Yoshihiro Togashi, the popular creator of Hunter x Hunter, has finished his first new chapters of the manga in over a year, sparking widespread fan excitement just hours after Volume 38 was announced.

Togashi confirmed in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account that he had completed Hunter x Hunter Chapter 402, signing a new color illustration with his name and captioning it “HORROR ANGEL,” which appears to be the chapter’s title. Just a few hours later, Togashi revealed that he had also completed an unnamed Chapter 403.

Togashi’s second post received more likes than his first. This is most likely due to the creator completing not one, but two chapters since March 9, 2023, as well as the caption “No. 403, completed.” Toning is really enjoyable.” His return to X in May 2024 marked the beginning of frequent updates and a sense of enjoyment, attracting fans with never-before-seen art and magazine cover recreations, as well as providing insight into his interests. Togashi confirmed that he had settled into a comfortable rhythm in 2023, saying, “Although the production system hasn’t been finalized, I’m happy that the amount of time I spend working at my desk has increased little by little.”

His recent return to form comes as Hunter x Hunter Volume 38 is set to be released later this year, marking the first new volume since his 2022 hiatus. Fans can expect new chapters this year; in his July 24 update, he revealed that he was finishing up Chapter 404. Meanwhile, Togashi has begun work on Chapter 416, demonstrating how he works on multiple manuscripts concurrently.

When Hunter x Hunter returns, it will not appear in Weekly Shonen Jump. Shueisha announced in 2022 that it would release the new serialization format in due course. Hunter x Hunter is licensed by VIZ in North America, with the following description: “Gon might be a country boy, but he has high aspirations.” Despite his Aunt Mito’s objections, Gon decides to follow his father’s footsteps and become a legendary Hunter.

The Hunter hopefuls begin their journey on a storm-tossed ship, where Gon meets Leorio and Kurapika, the only other applicants who aren’t devastated by seasickness. After surviving the dangers of the high seas, Gon and his companions must now prove their worth in a series of tests in order to locate the elusive Exam Hall. And, once there, will they ever get out alive…?”

Yoshihiro Togashi’s return to Hunter x Hunter, as well as the completion of new chapters, have reignited fan excitement around the world. With Volume 38 set to be released and more chapters on the way, readers eagerly await the next installment in this beloved series.
