Overlord, known for its skeletal, overpowered protagonist, is a popular modern isekai anime, manga, and light novel franchise. Fans of the series can now immerse themselves even deeper into the Overlord universe with the new official card game, Overlord: Imagine Stories.

Overlord

Overlord: Imagine Stories provides two gameplay options, allowing players to interact with one another and create their own adventures featuring franchise characters. This includes cast members from the upcoming film, with some venues offering special bonus exclusives. This playable merchandise, set to be released in Japan later this year, demonstrates the isekai brand’s widespread popularity.

Overlord: Imagine Stories is intended for one to seven players, allowing them to tell their own version of the franchise’s story. The game incorporates narrative elements such as amnesia and moral choices, which influence interactions and determine the story’s conclusion. This provides fans with a plethora of possible endings and scenarios to consider. Players can select from a variety of familiar characters, including the iconic protagonist, Ainz Ooal Gown.

The card game will be available from four Japanese retailers: Animate, Rakuten Books, 7net Shopping, and the Kadokawa Store. Each retailer will sell exclusive cards featuring new characters from the film Overlord: The Holy Kingdom. Calca Bessarez’s cards will be available from Animate, Remedios Custodio from Rakuten, Kelart Custodio from 7net, and Neia Baraja from the Kadokawa Store. The card game will be released on September 20, 2024, which coincides with the film’s premiere. However, no international release date has yet been announced.

The Overlord series began as a web novel by Kugane Maruyama and so-bin that ran from 2010 to 2012. It was later adapted into a still-running light novel series and a manga, which debuted in 2014. Except for the manga’s 19th volume, almost all collected volumes have been translated into English. Madhouse’s anime adaptation is 52 episodes long and will be released between 2015 and 2022.

Ainz Ooal Gown is also featured in the Isekai Quartet parody series, which includes characters from various isekai properties. Overlord: The Holy Kingdom adapts the story arc from the manga and light novels. The film, which was announced alongside the anime’s fourth season in 2021, will now be released in theaters more than three years later. The anime series may continue as a movie franchise, as the Demon Slayer property has.

Overlord: Imagine Stories offers fans an exciting new way to interact with their favorite characters and create their own adventures. This card game is poised to become another beloved addition to the Overlord franchise, broadening its appeal and enriching the experience for its devoted fans.
