My Hero Academia, the hugely popular shonen anime series, is collaborating with the Major League Baseball team, the Texas Rangers, for a special themed night this summer. This event adds to the growing intersection of American franchises, particularly sports-themed ones, and major Japanese intellectual property.
According to the official MLB website, “My Hero Academia Night” will be held at the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 7:05 p.m. (CDT) against the Los Angeles Angels. This exciting event is organized in collaboration with the MLB Rangers, Toho Animation, Crunchyroll, and Shueisha, the original manga publisher.
My Hero Academia Night promises an immersive journey into the world of heroes. The official teaser reads: “Immerse yourself in the world of heroes at Globe Life Field for our first-ever My Hero Academia night! Theme Night tickets purchased through this offer will include a My Hero Academia/Texas Rangers jersey. Tickets can be purchased through MLB’s ticketing service, with the promo code “Anime” granting access to discounted tickets ranging from $36 to $96.
In addition to the special Theme Night ticket, fans will be able to redeem a limited-edition item at the kiosk on game day. Item pickup is available from the time the gates open until the end of the third inning. My Hero Academia Night follows numerous collaborations with Japanese media, including hololive Night at the Los Angeles Dodgers and Hello Kitty Night, which will be held for the second time this August.
August is a significant month for My Hero Academia. The manga series will end on August 5, 2024, just three days after the release of the franchise’s fourth film on August 2. Toho International will distribute My Hero Academia: You’re Next in North America, with a release date of October 11, 2024. The announcement was made at Anime Expo and featured members of the Japanese cast: Daiki Yamashita (Deku), Kenta Miyake (All Might), Mamoru Miyano (Giulio Gandini), and Meru Nukumi (Anna Scervino). Fans can look forward to an exciting new trailer that features these characters.
Crunchyroll streams the My Hero Academia anime series, which is described as follows: “Izuku has dreamed of being a hero his entire life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially difficult for a child without superpowers.” That’s right, in a world where 80% of the population has some sort of super-powered ‘quirk,’ Izuku was unfortunate enough to be born completely normal. However, that is insufficient to prevent him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
