According to Livedoor News, Kagurabachi recently received a huge endorsement from one of the all-time greats. Before the release of Kagurabachi Volume 3, Naruto’s Kishimoto stated, “The illustrations are full of power and emotion, and it is captivating to turn the pages.” Manga fans will enjoy this talent and style. Kagurabachi Volume 3 was released on July 4, 2024, in Japan. Readers can view the stylish previews, including the acclaimed front cover, below.
It was also revealed that Kagurabachi had 350,000 copies in circulation (including Volume 3), up from 200,000 copies for Volumes 1 and 2. Hokazono, the series’ writer and artist, posted a series of doodles on X, seen above, with the caption “Kagurabachi Vol. 3!! Tomorrow!” The characters Hiyuki Kagari, main protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira, and Hakuri Sazanami appear in the sentence “Kagurabachi Vol. 3 releases tomorrow!”
Kagurabachi’s success story will always begin with the satirical reaction of manga fans, who may have unfairly dismissed it as another ‘edgy’ story before its release. The manga is gaining popularity with each announcement, and it clearly has the full support of Shonen Jump’s upper management and veteran creators. A Japanese program recently reported on a conversation with a Shueisha representative, who stated that he wanted Kagurabachi to “carry the next generation of Jump.”
The series had one of the quickest English print release windows for a Jump manga, with VIZ releasing Kagurabachi Volume 1 overseas this fall. Along with Kishimoto, My Hero Academia’s Kohei Horikoshi has praised the series, saying, “Every week, I’m amazed at the composition, which feels like watching a movie.” “He knows what it means to be cool.
With Jump’s flagbearers such as One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and My Hero Academia set to end in the near to medium term, both Shueisha and Jump fans are looking for new series to carry the torch. Fellow Jump title Kaiju No. 8 recently announced a second season, and it appears to have added an additional million manga copies to circulation in just two weeks.
VIZ has licensed Kagurabachi in North America, with Volume 1 set to be released on November 7, 2024. The series is described as follows: “Chihiro Rokuhira’s father, Kunishige, is the most famous swordsmith in the land.” Thanks to his six enchanted blades, the nation’s war came to an end, and peaceful days followed. Following the war, he retrieved all six blades and hid them in his workshop’s cellar. However, sorcerers raided his home, stole the legendary swords, and killed Kunishige in front of Chihiro. Chihiro now wields Kunishige’s seventh and final enchanted blade, on a mission to exact revenge and retrieve the swords forged by his father.
“As a child, Chihiro trained every day with his father to become a swordsmith. Despite their differing temperaments, the two spent peaceful days laughing and working together until tragedy struck. Now Chihiro is filled with rage and determined to exact revenge on those who murdered his father!”
