Luffy decided to paint their Straw Hat Pirate flag on Laboon, making it easier to identify the giant whale. Meanwhile, Nami was occupied with studying the new map routes when she noticed that her compass was malfunctioning, with the pointer spinning wildly. Crocus, upon seeing the compass, expressed pity for the crew for entering the Grand Line without proper preparation. He explained that the abnormal compass readings were due to a geomagnetic anomaly that extended across the Grand Line. This anomaly resulted from the abundance of various minerals on many islands within the Grand Line, causing magnetic field disturbances. Additionally, the Grand Line’s unpredictable currents and winds made navigation challenging for a navigator like Nami.
Crocus elaborated that in order to navigate the Grand Line successfully, a crew needed a Log Pose, a unique type of compass designed to record the magnetic fields of different islands. Luffy then revealed the compass that had been dropped by Mr 9. Nami examined the peculiar-looking compass, and Crocus explained that each island in the Grand Line had its own magnetic field, and a navigator needed to record the interactions between the magnetic fields of two islands to navigate accurately.
Crocus informed them that they had seven magnetic fields to choose from, each leading to different islands. However, no matter which island they began with, the paths would eventually converge. He also revealed that the last island one could reach in the Grand Line was Raftel, also known as the Island of Legends, where the legendary treasure One Piece was said to be located. Only the Pirate King and his crew had ever confirmed the existence of Raftel in history.
Luffy’s excitement about the prospect of finding One Piece led to him devouring all the food on the ship. When Sanji discovered that there was no food left for Nami, he kicked Luffy in the face, accidentally striking the Log Pose and breaking it. In frustration, Nami kicked Sanji into the ocean. She was upset about the broken Log Pose, but Crocus, as a gesture of thanks for their help with Laboon, offered to give them his Log Pose.
Unbeknownst to the crew, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 observed everything, realizing that their Log Pose was now with Nami. Without it, they couldn’t return to their town. While discussing their failed mission to capture Laboon, they spotted Mr. 13 and Miss Friday in the sky, who dropped a box of explosives on them as punishment for their delay, then fled. To escape the explosion, both of them jumped into the ocean.
Sanji rescued Luffy from the water just as Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 also emerged. Mr. 9 humbly requested that they be taken to Whiskey Peak, their hometown, though given their earlier attempts to harm Laboon, it seemed like a lot to ask. Initially, Nami and the others were reluctant to help, but when Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 knelt and insisted Luffy and the crew to assist them, Luffy agreed. With Crocus’s help, Nami set the Log Pose’s course for Whiskey Peak, and the crew embarked on their first adventure in the Grand Line, sailing toward their next destination.
