Toonami, Adult Swim’s Saturday night anime block, has announced the release date for the highly anticipated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, the popular series’ third season. This new season brings fans closer to the anime’s current events, leading up to the much-anticipated Infinity Castle film trilogy.

According to ToonamiNews on X (formerly Twitter), the Swordsmith Village Arc will air on Toonami on August 11, 2024. The premiere will be a special one-hour episode that begins at midnight, with subsequent episodes airing at 12:30 a.m. beginning August 17. Toonami will feature an exciting lineup of other anime series, including Dragon Ball Z Kai, My Hero Academia, and Rick and Morty: The Anime.

The Swordsmith Village Arc follows the Entertainment District Arc, which debuted on January 13, 2024, and the Mugen Train Arc on November 11, 2023. The Mugen Train film, which opened in theaters three years ago, was a huge success, prompting an anime adaptation a year later. Toonami was initially unable to license the series due to high demand, but they now own the rights to the Swordsmith Village Arc, which aired on Crunchyroll in April 2023.

Toonami’s most recent acquisition is part of their ongoing effort to expand their collection of second-run anime series. This comes after the Toonami Rewind block, which revived older series such as Sailor Moon and Naruto. More shows may be added if the Rewind block proves successful. Meanwhile, Toonami continues to expand its library of first-run anime titles. Although Adult Swim will not produce more FLCL after Grunge and Shoegaze, they were considered ratings successes, as was Ninja Kamui, directed by Sunghoo Park of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1.

The Ninja Kamui franchise recently released a game called Ninja Kamui: Shinobi Origins, and a possible second season is in the works, according to a now-retracted statement from Sola Entertainment. Ufotable animated the Demon Slayer series, which was directed by Haruo Sotozaki. A new film trilogy based on the “Infinity Castle” arc is currently in development. The Swordsmith Village Arc’s official description is as follows:

“The story shifts to a new setting: Tanjiro visits the ‘Swordsmith Village.’ He reunites with the Demon Slayer Corps’ most powerful swordsmen, Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, and the shadow of a demon appears. A new battle begins for Tanjiro and his friends.”
