Luffy and Zoro set sail into the vast ocean with a plan to reach Grand Line. However, they soon realize that neither of them possesses the navigation skills required to navigate through the ocean’s challenging currents and harsh winds. Zoro shares his experience as a bounty hunter, explaining how he got lost while searching for someone and resorted to pirate hunting to make a living.
Hungry and tired, Luffy spots a bird and decides to catch it for food. He stretches his arms like a catapult to reach the bird, but it turns out to be a giant bird that carries Luffy away in its beak. Panicking, Luffy calls for help. Zoro follows the bird and encounters three men drowning in the sea. Acting swiftly, Zoro saves them by running the boat over them just in time.
These three men turn out to be troublemakers from Buggy-sama’s territory and threaten Zoro, demanding he hand over the boat. Zoro, showing no mercy, defeats them in a fight. The men explain their unfortunate encounter with a girl who stole their ship after tricking them with a treasure chest. They are now in fear of Captain Buggy’s wrath if they return empty-handed.
On a remote island, the girl is being chased by armed pirates because she stole a map that reveals the route to Grand Line. As the pirates fire a cannon at a giant bird, Luffy falls from the sky and lands near the girl. Unaware of the situation, Luffy wonders about the cannon attack, and the girl introduces herself as Nami, the Pirate Thief, who only steals treasure from pirates. The armed pirates, mistaking Luffy as the girl’s boss, attack him to make him take responsibility for her actions. However, Luffy’s immense strength easily defeats them.
Impressed by Luffy’s power, Nami offers him a choice to become partners.
