Terrified, the villagers manage to gather the amount to save their lives. As the Arlong Pirates prepare to leave the island, they notice smoke rising from a distant house that was not visible from the town. It turns out to be Bellemere’s home, where she is cooking dinner for her children, unaware of the dire situation in the town.
Nami and Neijiko witness everything from afar and decide to rush to the house to rescue Bellemere through the back door. However, Arlong reaches the house before they can, and despite Bellemere’s brave resistance, she is no match for his power. In front of Arlong’s might, she eventually surrenders. Inside the house, the pirates find 100,000 belli, enough to spare her life. However, they also discover that there are no official records of her being married or having children. Seeing an opportunity to save herself, Bellemere could have paid the money to live, but she makes a heart-wrenching decision. Bellemere chooses to use the money to save her children instead, as the revelation that she has no family was too painful to bear.
Nami and Neijiko reach Bellemere just in time to cry on her arms and share in the heartbreak of the moment. Witnessing the scene, Arlong decides to kill Bellemere, as she does not have enough money to save her life. He intends to make an example of her in front of the villagers, enforcing the brutal reality of their cruel demands.
