Stranded on the boulder for days, Sanji manages to ration the five-day food to last for twenty days and finds a small pit filled with rainwater to sustain himself. Despite the passing days, no ship comes into sight. Once, a ship passes by, but Sanji fails to signal them, and they leave. Over fifty days have elapsed, and all the food Sanji had is now gone. He survives by drinking water, but on the seventieth day, he realizes his days are numbered.
In a moment of desperation, Sanji recalls the food that the old man, Zeff, kept with him. He contemplates stealing the food by threatening the old man with a knife, only to discover that the bag contains gold, not food. Sanji is shocked and astonished, but his emotions take a different turn when he sees that Zeff’s right leg has been cut off. The old man survived by eating his own leg to stay alive, and he had willingly given Sanji all the food they had. Touched by this selfless act, Sanji is brought to tears.
The old geezer, Zeff, explains that All Blue does exist, and he no longer wishes to be a pirate without his leg. Instead, he dreams of opening a floating restaurant. Sanji pleads with him to let him work at that restaurant, provided Zeff doesn’t die. On the eighty-fifth day, a ship finally finds Zeff and Sanji in an unconscious state but still breathing, and they are rescued.
In the midst of the Baratie battle, Sanji declares that he won’t lose anything else that belongs to Zeff. Even if it means risking his life, he is determined to save Zeff’s precious treasure—the Baratie restaurant.
