Upon seeing Zeff’s , Don Krieg recollects the legend that Zeff was the only pirate who returned unscathed from the treacherous Grand Line. Zeff was renowned for his fearsome fighting style, relying solely on the power of his legs. His kicks were so formidable that they could shatter boulders and leave imprints on steel, earning him the moniker “Red Leg Zeff” due to the blood of his enemies staining his legs in battle. However, Don finds relief in the fact that Zeff still possesses one leg.
Demanding Zeff’s travel log and his ship, Don Krieg explains that his 50 ships and 5000 men were ill-equipped to survive the brutal and unforgiving seas of the Grand Line, and within a mere week, they were obliterated. Despite the vast difference in strength, the cooks gather their courage to stand against Don and protect their home. Impressed by their determination, Luffy decides to support the cooks and challenges Don, warning him not to lay a hand on their ship.
In the dining hall, the cooks blame Sanji for feeding Don, but Zeff defends him, emphasizing the pain of starvation and urging them not to dwell on past mistakes. Encouraged by Zeff, the cooks rise, armed and ready to confront Don. Gin, in tears, apologizes to Sanji for the unexpected turn of events, explaining that a single man defeated their 50 ships in the Grand Line, and they were only saved by a sudden storm that whisked them away. The man responsible is known as “Hawk Eye,” and upon hearing this, Zoro becomes alert and intrigued by the name.
