Luffy finds himself caught in a massive whirlpool that destroys his small boat. In a desperate bid to save his life, he climbs into a nearby barrel and is carried away by the tumultuous waves, propelling him towards his next adventure.
Meanwhile, Coby, who has served as a ship caretaker for the Alvida Pirates for the past two years, endures constant harassment from the crew. Two years prior, while out fishing, he encountered Alvida-sama and was subsequently forced into becoming the ship caretaker and navigator against his will.
As their ship sails around the ocean the crew members stumble upon the barrel, they mistakenly believe it to be filled with wine, but to their surprise, Luffy emerges from it. This encounter marks the first meeting between Luffy and Coby.
Coby reveals his dream to Luffy of joining the Marines and secretly works on building a boat to escape from his current predicament. Witnessing Luffy’s unwavering determination to become the Pirate King, Coby finds himself inspired and, after two years of silence, boldly tells Alvida that she is unattractive. He fights for his dream and his freedom. Impressed by Coby’s newfound resolve, Luffy decides to lend him a helping hand. He engages in a battle against Alvida and emerges victorious. Luffy then instructs Alvida’s crew members to construct a ship for their escape.
Coby is left speechless upon learning about Luffy’s next destination. Luffy plans to meet Roronoa Zoro, a notorious Bounty Hunter who is currently detained at the Marine Base. The mention of Zoro sends shivers down Coby’s spine, as he is known to be feared as an evil and incredibly dangerous individual.
