Episode 101: Reverse Mountain

The light of guidance disappeared, leaving Luffy and his crew troubled. Nami, the navigator, reassured them, stating that as a navigator, she had a basic sense of direction that would lead them to the entrance of the Grand Line. Examining the map, she looked troubled and revealed that the entrance to the Grand Line was a Reverse Mountain located in the Red Line. There was a small waterway between the mountains that would carry them up, but it was an unimaginable feat. Zoro suggested heading directly south to the Grand Line’s entrance, but suddenly, they noticed that the storm had ceased.

Nami was puzzled by this and realized immediately that they had entered the Calm Belt. She instructed the crew to grab the oars and row the ship as fast as possible toward the area where the storm was still raging. Nami explained that the Grand Line was surrounded by two ocean belts known as the Calm Belts, where winds didn’t blow and ships were trapped. The ship was suddenly lifted by Sea Kings, denizens of the Calm Belt.

Nami further explained that the Calm Belt was known as the den of Sea Kings, and the ship was tossed around by these enormous creatures. Fortunately, the ship eventually landed back in the stormy area. Nami stated that this was precisely why they had to enter through the entrance in the first place, as there was no other viable route.

Observing the sea currents, Nami understood that they were ascending the mountain due to these currents. She deduced that if strong currents from each of the Four Seas converged toward that mountain, they would propel the water up the waterway. At the very top, the currents would merge and flow into the Grand Line. She emphasized that since they were already riding the currents, their primary concern was steering properly. Nami also warned of the risk of failing to enter the waterway, which would result in the ship being crushed and dragged to the bottom of the sea, noting that it was not surprising that many perished attempting to enter the Grand Line.

The crew soon spotted a towering red mountain, its peak obscured by other mountains. They all assumed their designated positions, ready for the final push. The currents became increasingly powerful, altering the ship’s course. In their efforts to correct the course, Usopp and Sanji accidentally damaged the starboard (the ship’s steering). The ship careened straight toward a massive boulder.

In a moment of swift thinking, Luffy launched himself, utilizing his Gomu Gomu no Fusion technique to inflate like a balloon, creating a cushion between the ship and the boulder. He successfully prevented the ship from crashing into the entrance. With lightning speed, Zoro grabbed Luffy’s hand and pulled him back onto the ship. The crew erupted in joy as they had finally achieved their goal.

The ship continued its ascent until it reached the mountaintop, offering the crew a magnificent and unforgettable view of the Grand Line.
