Ryuk finds himself bewildered by Light’s actions, struggling to predict his next moves. Light reassures Ryuk to sit back and enjoy the unfolding events. A girl named Yuri greets Light enthusiastically and eagerly anticipates their date at the theme park. The detective tailing Light observes his routine: weekdays spent at school and prep academy, while weekends are dedicated to dates. This observation leads the detective to conclude that Light is a regular teenager or a studious college-bound student. Deciding to follow Light for one final day, the detective boards the same bus as Light and Yuri, taking a seat behind them.
At the subsequent bus stop, Kiichiro Osoreda, the criminal, enters the bus and takes control, pointing a pistol at the driver’s head. Panic and fear grip the passengers as Kiichiro demands that the driver contact Spaceland amusement park and instruct them to deliver the previous day’s earnings to Yuhihama bus stop, two stops before Spaceland. He insists that only a female should deliver the money in a car and warns against any involvement of law enforcement, threatening to kill all the passengers on the bus otherwise.
Light discreetly passes a note to Yuri, reassuring her. Drawing on his father’s teachings (given his detective background), Light shares a plan to disarm the hijacker by seizing his arm and immobilizing him. Unfortunately, the detective spots the note and intervenes, cautioning Light against taking such a risky action. He asserts his readiness to handle the situation. Light further questions the detective if he possesses any evidence to prove he’s not an accomplice of the hijacker.
Yuri is taken aback by the term “accomplice,” prompting Light to explain its significance. He reveals that hijackers often employ this tactic—making people believe there’s only one perpetrator when, in reality, another may be positioned to provide support. Faced with no other choice, the detective, Raye Pember, reluctantly presents his identity card. Light is stunned to learn that L has leveraged the FBI to investigate the NPA. Raye Pember is the detective’s name.
Light ingeniously tosses a piece of paper, catching the hijacker’s attention and fueling his suspicion that it’s an incriminating note. The hijacker picks up the paper, finding nothing of concern. He warns Light against dropping anything else, threatening to shoot him next time. However, the hijacker’s expression changes to one of shock and fear as he glances behind him. To his astonishment, he sees Ryuk, and in a panic, he opens fire until his gun is empty. Ryuk deduces that the piece of paper was from the Death Note and that touching it made him visible to the hijacker. The hijacker rushes toward the driver, demanding the bus be stopped, and then hastily leaps off the bus, colliding with an oncoming car. The hijacker dies instantly, precisely as Light had scripted in his Death Note. Ryuk is impressed by Light’s meticulous orchestration and his ability to force the detective to reveal his ID.
