Monolith, a well-known tabletop game publisher based in the United States, has announced an exciting new project: an official Berserk board game. This announcement is made in collaboration with Hakusensha, the publisher of the iconic Japanese manga, Berserk. Monolith teased that the upcoming game will be “accessible, rich, and intuitive!”
The announcement was made via a Monolith Instagram post, which stated, “In collaboration with Hakusensha, we have the great honor of announcing that we are working on the development of Berserk, the miniature board game based on the works of Kentaro Miura! This privilege motivates our team to provide the best and most beautiful gaming experience possible. So we’ve decided to provide you with a brand-new game system dedicated to this classic manga series–accessible, rich, and intuitive! We cannot wait to tell you more.” Readers can see the first visual for the Berserk board game below.
Monolith is known for producing high-quality board games, including Conan, which was nominated for the prestigious As d’Or – Jeu de l’AnnĂ©e Expert Award in 2017. The intricate and expansive world of Berserk, created by Kentaro Miura, is ideal for a role-playing board game. Berserk’s story draws on a variety of themes and cultures, including medieval European mercenaries and Lovecraftian horror, making it an excellent choice for a comprehensive gaming experience. Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and director of Elden Ring, recently praised Berserk in an interview, describing it as “super enjoyable.”
Berserk joins a number of other popular anime and manga series that have recently been turned into board games. Monopoly, for example, has announced a collaboration with One Piece set in Dressrosa, with teams such as the Factory Destruction & Samurai Rescue Team, the Caesar Delivery Team, and the Thousand Sunny Guard Team. Solo Leveling also has a board game in production, with the fundraiser for Solo Leveling: The Board Game reaching its goal in just one minute.
Hakusensha publishes Berserk in Japan, while Dark Horse Comics licenses and translates it in North America. The series’ official description is as follows: “His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers.” Bearer of a massive sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that attracts the forces of darkness and dooms him as their sacrifice.
But Guts will not accept his fate passively; he will cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned – and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Guts, accompanied by Puck the Elf, more of an annoyance than a companion, relentlessly pursues a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death…or vengeance.
Stay tuned for more updates on the highly anticipated Berserk board game as Monolith and Hakusensha continue to work on this exciting new addition to the world of tabletop gaming.
